Cassie Reynolds was eleven years old when her father died on
the Fourth of July. And her life was thrown into chaos. Deep in debt, the
family lost the only home Cassie had ever known, and they moved into a small
trailer. But there was a silver lining. The trailer was just up the hill from
an equestrian center.
Through her friend and mentor, Henry, Cassie finds an after
school job at the riding school, and also learns to ride, Then one Friday
afternoon something happens that will change the direction of Cassie’s life. As
she walks behind the academy’s old barn, Cassie discovers a large shed with
signs posted on the door – KEEP OUT, DANGER.
Cassie’s asks Henry about it.
“What’s in that shed,” Henry said, “is the worst kind of
grief. Brokenhearted grief that don’t want to live and doesn’t want life around
it.”
Henry is speaking of Godzilla, a magnificent jumping horse,
once the pride of The North Dallas Riding Academy, and easily one of the best
jumpers in the country. But after an unfortunate accident, when his filly
‘sweetheart’, Sunny, was killed, Godzilla turned wild and crazy. Since then, he
has been locked in a back shed, lonely, desperate, and dangerous.
Thus begins the heart warming tale of friendship and
adventure between the young girl and the powerful horse. As Cassie and
Godzilla’s relationship deepens, a healing takes place, both for Cassie and
Godzilla, and in the process they learn the secrets of becoming champions.
